Mount Kenya

Mount Kenya is Africa's second highest mountain standing at 5,199m, poised magnificently on the equator. Her spectacular snow- capped peaks create a stunning backdrop all year- round, and are crowned to be the only snow- blessed point on the equator. Africa's most stunning mountain treasures sweeping valleys infused with jeweled streams and lucent- colored birds who will befriend you on sight. Mount Kenya's prestigious peaks are prized as the top rock climbing cliffs in East Africa,promising you soaring views from directly over top the equator.

Mount Kilimanjaro

Kilimanjaro, with its three volcanic cones, Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira, is an inactive stratovolcano in north-eastern Tanzania and the highest mountain in Africa at 5,895 metres or 19,341 ft above sea level (the Uhuru Peak / Kibo Peak). Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest freestanding mountain as well as the 4th most prominent mountain in the world, rising 5,895 metres or 19,298 ft from the base.

Kilimanjaro is a giant stratovolcano that began forming a million years ago, when lava spilled from the Rift Valley zone. Two of its three peaks, Mawenzi and Shira, are extinct while Kibo (the highest peak) is dormant and could erupt again. The last major eruption has been dated to 360,000 years ago, while the most recent activity was recorded just 200 years ago. Although it is dormant, Kibo has fumaroles that emit gas in the crater. Scientists concluded in 2003 that molten magma is just 400 m (1,310 ft) below the summit crater. Several collapses and landslides have occurred on Kibo in the past, one creating the area known as the Western Breach.

Mount Kilimanjaro Routes
Marangu Route

Marangu Route is the most popular route of Mt. Kilimanjaro. This is also the only route where solar power hut accommodation is possible for each night of the trek on the mountain. This route can be completed in 5 days, however your chance of conquering the highest point of Mt. Kilimanjaro is much higher if you can allow for the extra included day for acclimatisation.

Machame Route

Machame route is likely Mt. Kilimanjaro's most scenic climb. The ideal hike requires at least 6 days on the mountain and will take you through rainforest,moorlands and via the Lava Tower before your final ascent to the peak.

Rongai Route

Rongai Route begins on the Eastern side of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Though this is a camping route, it is one of the easiest climbing routes on the mountain. The night before your final ascent will be in hut accommodation. This trek can also be done in 5 days, but it is recommended that at least 6 days be taken for the best chance of success and as many days as desired can be added on to make your climb a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

Lemosho/Shira Route

The Lemosho/ Shira route consists of two tracks (Lemosho and Londrosi) starting at the same point on the Western side of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Once you arrive at the Shira plateau, the vegetation change is spectacular, with open grasslands sweeping into moorlands. After this point you will pass the impressive Shira Cone, Shira Cathedral and then Shira Needles. For an enjoyable hike, this trek requires a minimum of 7 days, though 8 or 9 days is recommended.

Umbwe Route

Umbwe route is one of the most challenging paths and is suitable for experienced trekkers. This is a very steep route, first taking you through beautiful forest before culminating into a challenging approach to the summit. Ice and mud can be expected on this track at any time of the year, and as this is such a direct route,it's advised to not rush this trek.
