Mount Kilimanjaro Over View
Mount Kilimanjaro, with its three volcanic cones, Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira, is
an inactive stratovolcano in north-eastern Tanzania and the highest
mountain in Africa at 5,895 metres or 19,341 ft above sea level (the Uhuru
Peak / Kibo Peak). Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest freestanding mountain
as well as the 4th most prominent mountain in the world, rising 5,895
metres or 19,298 ft from the base.
Lemosho - Shira Route
The Lemosho/ Shira route consists of two tracks (Lemosho and Londrosi)
starting at the same point on the Western side of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Once
you arrive at the Shira plateau, the vegetation change is spectacular,
with open grasslands sweeping into moorlands. After this point you will
pass the impressive Shira Cone, Shira Cathedral and then Shira Needles.
For an enjoyable hike, this trek requires a minimum of 7 days, though 8 or
9 days is recommended.
8 Days Mount Kilimanjaro Trekking Safari on the Lemosho - Shira route
Day 1: Moshi / Mti Mkubwa camp
Meet & greet at your hotel in moshi, after breakfast drive in a land cruiser to
Londrosi park gate, where we can register for our climb and upon obtaining
a permit, drive back to Lemosho starting point where our trek can begin.
From here we have a 6km climb, which will take about 3 hours to our first
camp at 2750m. We will stay at Mti Mkubwa Camp (Big Tree) for dinner and
spend the night here.
Day 2: Mti Mkubwa / Shira 1 camp
Today we have a 5- 6 hour climb from Mti Mkubwa Camp through the
moorlands to the next camp at 3500m, named Shira 1 Camp; about 9kms away.
We can have dinner and the spend the night here.
Day 3: Shira 1 / Shira 2 camp
After breakfast we have about a 3 hour trek through the heather
Moorlands of the mountain to Shira 2 Camp at 3850m, where we will have
dinner tonight and spend the night.
Day 4 : Shira 2 / Baranco camp
This morning we can leave Shira 2 Camp to hike across the Lava
Tower at 4600m for acclimatisation. From here, we can continue onto
Baranco camp at 3950m,where we will arrive before dinner and which will
take us in total about 6- 7 hours trekking.
Day 5: Baranco / Karanga Camp
Today we can leave Baranco camp for Karanga camp, about 5 kms away
which will take us about 3-4 hours. On our hike we will climb the Baranco
Walls at 4250m,from where we can cross Karanga Valley to arrive at Karanga
camp before dinner, at an altitude of 4000m.
Day 6: Karanga / Barafu Camp
After breakfast we can continue our hike to Barafu camp, about 4kms
away from Karanga camp, which will take us about 3 hours. We will have
dinner and the spend the night here, at an altitude of 4600m.
Day 7 : Barafu / Uhuru peak 5895 / Mweka Camp.
We can leave very early morning from Barafu camp to begin our trek
to the summit, first passing Stella Point where we can relax and soak in
the views before our final ascent to Uhuru peak, the highest point of Mt.
Kilimanjaro at 5895m. From Barafu camp to the summit is about a 6 hour
trek. After celebrating, we can then start to return to Barafu camp for a
rest and lunch, before our last descent to Mweka High camp (3700m) or Mweka Camp (3100m) , which at an will take us about 2 hours before we arrive at our camp for
the night, in time for dinner.
Day 8: Mweka Camp / Moshi
After breakfast we can continue our final descent to Mweka park
gate, which is about a 3 hour walk down. Our vehicle will be waiting for
us, and your comfortable hotel in Moshi town inviting you in for a hot
shower before a late lunch!
Day 9: Optional
You can continue on in Tanzania for safari if you choose, otherwise
we can arrange for your transfer to Nairobi or any other destination of
your choice.

NB: Proper equipments are vital to safe and enjoyable trek.
Sample Food Menu
During our expedition we normally provide enough, fresh and clean food. When it comes to cooking we cook different food at different elevation putting into consideration of the boiling point at different heights so that the food will be well cooked for easier digestion. We also have food supply on the Mountain to make sure that there is enough and fresh food through out the trek.
Considering all that, you need water to avoid dehydration, we will provide you with fresh fruits.
BREAKFAST: Fruit Juice, Fruit, Cereal/Porridge, Eggs bread/French-toast/Plain-toast/Pancakes, Sausages, Margarine, Jam/Honey, Tea/Coffee/Drinking chocolate. Boiled egg, spinach omelet or fried egg with beacon and bread.
SNACKS: Peanuts/Crisps/Popcorn/Cookies.
LUNCH: Sliced Carrot and Cucumber stripes, Avocado slices, Boiled egg, Vegetable/Meat cutlets, Sandwiches (Egg/ Cheese/Tomato/Tuna/Meat/Peanut butter), Fruit. Boiled egg, salami sandwich, cheese, French toast, Macaroni, meat sauce and bread.
DINNER: Soup of the day, Bread, Salad, Rice/Pasta/Potatoes, Chicken/Meat, Mixed Vegetables (Carrot/French -Beans/Cabbage), Lentils, Fruit Salad, Fruit with custard, Tea/Coffee/Milo/Drinking chocolate. Spaghetti with meat sauce or fish with rice, Fried beef with roast potatoes, rice, carrots, cabbage. Roast chicken with vegetable, fried rice, green pepper, carrots.
ON WAY TO THE SUMMIT (midnight snack)
Hot Chocolate, Tea or coffee and biscuits, Glucose, Chocolate bar, orange squash or soup.
NOTE: We are flexible and willing to accept Tourist suggestions on Food menu and equipments information during our trek.
NB: You have the right to bring your food if you see any need to do so. But on our side, the food will be enough and fresh to avoid any side effects.
