Mount Elgon Overview:
Mt. Elgon’s highest point is Wagagai Peak at 4, 321m and stands directly on the border of Kenya and Uganda Mount Elgon is an extinct volcano with the largest surface area in the world being 50 by 80 kilometres and has an enormous crater which covers 40 kilometres at the top of the mountain. The land around Mt. Elgon is highly fertile and is known for cultivating excellent quality coffee.

5 Days Mt. Elgon Trek Kenyan side
Day 1: Nairobi / Kitale
Today we begin with a transfer from Nairobi heading towards Eldoret via Nakuru, and then onto Kitale town which is in Western Kenya, stopping for lunch enroute. You will have dinner and sleep at Mt Elgon lodge tonight, or in the case of arriving late you may spend the night in a hotel in Kitale town.
Day 2: Kitale / Rongai Camp
After breakfast you will head to Rongai gate in Mt. Elgon national park to settle into your ‘bandas’ (African style hut) where you will have lunch at your camp site. Afterwards you can go for a nature walk to the nearby Kiptum caves which are truly stunning and where you may have the fortune of spotting the elusive Genet cat.You will then return to your camp site in time for dinner and a good sleep before your mountain trek begins tomorrow.
Day 3: Rongai / Bamboo Camp
After breakfast you will be joined by the KWS rangers who will accompany you and your guide on your trek up Mt. Elgon. You can make a stop on the way, at the popularly known ‘Famous Elephant Caves’ where buffaloes and elephants visit to lick the minerals that are found in these magnificent caves. After lunch you can continue onto the camp site where you will have dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Bamboo / Road head Camp
After breakfast, you can continue onto the Road Head which is the base to the highest Kenyan peaks of Mount Elgon. You can have a picnic lunch on the way,with dinner and over night being at the Road Head camp site.
Day 5: Road head / Koitoboss peak (4187m) / Kitale town
mount elgonEarly morning we hike up to Koitoboss peak at 4187m, the highest on the Kenyan side of Mt. Elgon, just in time for a glorious sunrise. We will have returned to the Road Head Camp site in time for breakfast, and then descend back to Rongai gate using a different route for easier descent. You can then return to Kitale town where you may transfer to your next chosen destination, such as Lake Bogoria, one of the Great Rift Valley’s famous salt water lakes renowned for it’s hot springs and staggeringly massive flocks of pink flamingoes.

NB: Proper equipment are vital to safe and enjoyable trek.
Sample Food Menu
During our expedition we normally provide enough, fresh and clean food. When it comes to cooking we cook different food at different elevation putting into consideration of the boiling point at different heights so that the food will be well cooked for easier digestion. We also have food supply on the Mountain to make sure that there is enough and fresh food through out the trek.
Considering all that, you need water to avoid dehydration, we will provide you with fresh fruits.
BREAKFAST: Fruit Juice, Fruit, Cereal/Porridge, Eggs bread/French-toast/Plain-toast/Pancakes, Sausages, Margarine, Jam/Honey, Tea/Coffee/Drinking chocolate. Boiled egg, spinach omelet or fried egg with beacon and bread.
SNACKS: Peanuts/Crisps/Popcorn/Cookies.
LUNCH: Sliced Carrot and Cucumber stripes, Avocado slices, Boiled egg, Vegetable/Meat cutlets, Sandwiches (Egg/ Cheese/Tomato/Tuna/Meat/Peanut butter), Fruit. Boiled egg, salami sandwich, cheese, French toast, Macaroni, meat sauce and bread.
DINNER: Soup of the day, Bread, Salad, Rice/Pasta/Potatoes, Chicken/Meat, Mixed Vegetables (Carrot/French -Beans/Cabbage), Lentils, Fruit Salad, Fruit with custard, Tea/Coffee/Milo/Drinking chocolate. Spaghetti with meat sauce or fish with rice, Fried beef with roast potatoes, rice, carrots, cabbage. Roast chicken with vegetable, fried rice, green pepper, carrots.
ON WAY TO THE SUMMIT: (midnight snack) Hot Chocolate, Tea or coffee and biscuits, Glucose, Chocolate bar, orange squash or soup.
NOTE: We are flexible and willing to accept Tourist suggestions on Food menu and equipment information during our trek.
NB: You have the right to bring your food if you see any need to do so. But on our side, the food will be enough and fresh to avoid any side effects.
